FEEDING DAY - Adopt A School

Ateneo Graduate School of Business launches Adopt-a-School program

Unti-unting mararating…pangarap na bituin (Slowly… will reach the dreamt star).

This line of a song rendered by a student-benefiary during the program was the message as the Ateneo through the collaborative efforts of the Ateneo Center for Educational Development (ACED) led by its Managing Director Ms. Carmela Oracion together with volunteers of the Ateneo Graduate School of Business (AGSB) led by Student Council President Mr. Mark Lee and the beneficiary, Villa Verde Elementary School headed by Principal Ms. Vernalisa Libanan treated 80 indigent students to a lunch to kick off Adopt-a-School through feeding program at the Villa Verde Elementary School in Novaliches last January 12, 2011.

The addresses of the heads of the various units centered on achieving a dream.

Ms. Oracion engaged the students to answer – who they want to be in the future. She then requested them to promise to work hard to achieve their dreams.

She noted the importance of a feeding program as indigent students despite their wanting for good education are hindered because of hunger and malnutrition.

She then thanked the Student Council for partnering with them. In her SMS message to the Student Council after the event, she said, “Yes, (opportunity of working with the AGSB in the same mission) very touching. This mission is important to me and I thank you for your help. Sometimes it is very frustrating and scary but people like your group push us on. We on have one country to love and care about, let’s do it.

Mr. Lee was very thankful as well for the opportunity to serve through this project  The Adopt-a-School project through feeding program is the Student Council’s response to the Ateneo De Manila University President, Fr. Bienvenido Niebres’ invitation to consider this project when the Student Council had their Leadership Conference in September 2010 when all class presidents of the AGSB elected the current officers and agreed to push for the project.

We still need donations as students requested to be sponsored is now at 80, up by 30 students from original of 50.

"In behalf of the Student Council I thank all the donors and the volunteers for the Adopt a School and to its project head Chris Manuel ( our MM Rep ) Thanks to all who participated in the fund raising projects to sponsor a school and feed the students. Our help to them will go a long way. Pictures will be posted soon on ADMU site, AGSB site and AGSB-SC2010-2011 site. Next project, Medical Mission. To those who wants to donate medicines, cash or in kind, please approach any of your SC officers." - Mark Lee

Special Thanks to the AGSB students who were present during the event
